Ho appena scoperto che di recente la Two Hour Wargames ha reso gratuito il download della versione pdf di alcuni dei suoi primi regolamenti, tra questi Chain Reaction e Six Gun Sound. I regolamenti in questione sono stati quasi tutti rieditati e ripublicati in una versione rinnovata (vedi Chain Reaction 2 e l’imminente Six Gun Sound – Blaze of Glory) e fino a poco tempo fa erano in vendita a soli 5$. La politica della Two Hour Wargames è sempre stata interessante perchè già rendeva disponibile gratuitamente (cosa che ormai fanno in pochi) un mini regolamento (MG42) che comprendeva il cuore del loro sistema cosi che gli interessati potessero farsi un idea diretta di cosa andavano ad acquistare. Ora potete provare (anche se in versione più vecchia) qualcosa di più specifico e vicino al regolamento che vi interessa della THW.
I’ve just found out that the Two Hour Wargameshave released as free download in pdf form some of their older rulesets, among them Chain Reaction and Six Gun Sound. This rulesets are some of the first products from THW and many of them are actually available in a newer and revised edition (like Chain Reaction 2 and the upcoming Six Gun Sound – Blaze of Glory) and were priced only 5$. I’ve always liked the way Two Hour Wargames promoted their work since they already gave to the customer the possibility to test the core of their system (unlike many other publishers) through the free download of a miniruleset (MG42). Now you can get and test something more specific (in the previous edition) in order to understand and appreciate what you’re going to buy without going blind.
Siamo a -2 giorni dall’uscita Usa dell’Iphone. Devo dire che guardando l’ultima video guida sul sito apple sono rimasto sbalordito per la praticità delle soluzioni e per la multimedialità dell’oggetto. Certo da quanto leggo sarà limitato in quanto ad espandibilità per il lato software e mancherà di certe features che sono solitamente incluse negli ultimi smartphone di pari livello/costo (GPS e Umts per dirne alcune). Dovremo attendere l’effettiva uscita per capirlo meglio e per capire cosa succederà al suo arrivo in europa (negli Usa è legato alla linea AT&T). Only 2 days to the official Iphone relese in the USA. I’ve to say that watching the latest video-guide on the apple site I’ve been really impressed by the multimedia capabilities and the simple touch interface. Reading the specs I noticed that as an apple standard the Iphone will not be really upgradable and updatable and will miss many of the standard new features that are usually included in other smartphones of the same cost/level (GPS and Umts for example). We’ll have to wait the official release to understand better the future of this item and what will happen when it’ll be released in Europe (since it’s linked only to AT&T in the USA). In the meanwhile I’ll suggest you to look at the smart video review made by David Pogue of The New York Times.
Ecco alcune foto dell’ultima battaglia giocata venerdi scorso (22 giugno) al Miles Gloriosus, ambientata in Francia durante le prime fasi della WWI. Il regolamento utilizzato è un adattamento alla WWI di Warmaster. Lo scontro vedeva Tedeschi e Francesi battagliare per conquistare terreno sul già devastato campo di battaglia. Alla fine dello scontro l’approccio offensivo dei comandanti Francesi (tra cui anche il sottoscritto :D) ha avuto la meglio sulla tattica difensivista ed attendista Tedesca, infatti dopo un inizio devastante per le linee Francesi dovuto all’artiglieria ed al supporto aereo nemico alla fine dello scontro il campo era quasi tutto Francese e le perdite Tedesche elevatissime.

I’ll show you some photos of the last game held last friday (22 june) at the Miles Gloriosus, the scenario was about the first fightings in France (1914). The rules used were a WWI mod of Warmaster. The battle saw French and German troops fighting to gain ground on the battlefield. At the end of the day the offensive approach of the French commanders (I was one of them :D) was decisive agains the defensive tactics of the entrenched German forces. After some turns of devastating attacks of the artillery and supporting aircraft on the advancing French men, the Germans tried a counteroffensive that soon came to an halt due to the big losses inflicted from the French soldiers.

Deluso per l’assenza della versione PC del terzo episodio avevo abbandonato le speranze di poter giocare con una versione di Call of Duty successiva alla due (che ho consumato in single e che in lan locale ancora sfrutto moltissimo). Quindi mi era sfuggita l’esistenza del progetto Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Il gioco ha un motore grafico nuovo di zucca ed il passaggio ad un ambientazione moderna (che prevede europa e medio oriente tra i campi di battaglia)… inoltre, per mia fortuna, prevede anche il PC come piattaforma e che dai primi segnali sembra spettacolare.

I was very disappointed when I found out that Activision was not going to publish a PC version of Call of Duty 3 (since I’ve completed the number 2 many times and enjoyed it also in local multiplayer games). So I didn’t know of the next edition project Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I’ve discovered it today when I came across the latest video of the multiplayer gameplay (released a couple of days ago)… finally this edition will be available also for PC gamers and from the first impression I’ve to say that the game rocks.
In this article I’ll review one of the first two plastic miniatures box in 1/72 scale (about WW2) made by english company Valiant Miniatures. This two box, “British Tommies 44-45″ e “Classic German Infantry 44-45″, are a fresh air breeze in the world of 1/72 plastic miniatures because their main target is mainly the wargamer. In particular the two boxes contain enough mens and bits to build up a full battalion to be deployed for a game with the“Rapid Fire!“ ruleset.
L’oggetto di questa recensione è una delle prime due scatole di miniature in plastica 1/72 (dedicate alla WW2) della inglese Valiant Miniatures. Le due scatole in questione, “British Tommies 44-45″ e “Classic German Infantry 44-45″, sono una vera novità nel mondo delle miniature in plastica 1/72 perchè sono dichiaratamente dedicate ad un target di wargamer. Nello specifico infatti i due box contengono tutti i pezzi necessari per realizzare un battaglione completo per giocare da subito a “Rapid Fire!“.
La strip in questione è una chicca che spesso fotografa con acume ed pungente (auto)ironia il mondo dei wargamers. In onore al simpatico personaggio ho deciso di provare a tradurre la sua ultima strip. Traduzioni del genere non sono facili e spesso non rendono bene la comicità della situazione rappresentata ma in questo caso è stato molto semplice e l’effetto comico non si è perso.
Dopo una lunga assenza ritorna Mighty Empires, questa riedizione si ripresenta come espansione per Warhammer ed è disponibile in Advance Order. Nel box il manuale e 45-48 (sul sito UK e USA indicano cifre diverse forse per errore) esagoni in plastica (grandi 60mm lato a lato) texturizzati in modo differente su entrambe le facce, quindi circa 90 differenti possibilità. Il prezzo è di 30£ (circa 45 euro) in preordine, nello shop online usa sono disponibili anche degli esagoni extra (con siti speciali) che probabilmente corrispondono a quelli allegati al White Dwarf 330.
After long time Mighty Empires is back, this new edition comes ad a Warhammer expansion and is now available through Advance Order. In the box the rulebook and 45-48 (different data on both UK and USA sites) double-sided plastic hex tiles (about 60mm from side to side), giving about 90 different tiles possibilities. The preorder price is 30£ (about 45 euros), on the usa online shop are also available two extra tiles (with special terrains) probably the same that come with the number 330 of White Dwarf.
